Odd New Year

Apparently Argentines don’t actually celebrate the new year in public, or at least not at 12 AM when, you know, the new year starts. At midnight in Mendoza on new year’s eve the streets are completely deserted and all bars are closed. They open at around 1 or 2 AM at which point, presumably, people fill them up. Strange people in peculiar countries…
