In our running club, we often say “Marathons are hard”. It is certainly true. But if you want to really know what’s hard, try taking care of a newborn. After a marathon, you get to sleep and rest on your laurels. With a baby, getting rest looks very different and working in shifts at night is no joke. I am grateful that Matt is here for another two weeks and that my parents are coming at the end of the month. Everyone says that it will get easier, and we expected this to be hard.
I look forward to taking her to places when she gets a little older. Right now, she is just too little to go out much, so whenever we go outside for a run/walk or whatever activity, we just take turns while the other one stays in the house. She does nap during the day and eventually falls asleep at night but the fussy periods and the interrupted sleep is rough, but we’ll get through it. It is all worth it in the end.
Here’s to a new chapter in our lives! I’ll refrain from posting pictures of her to keep her privacy but I can’t wait for her first smile. Until then: Coffee, please!
