What’s to Love about Ecuador?

Ecuador has been our favorite country so far, and it’s time to say goodbye tomorrow. Now, why is Ecuador so pleasant compared to other South American countries? Here we go:

1. The people. Believe it or not, Ecuadorians are the most friendly and pleasant people we’ve met during our travels so far. They smile, help you on the street when you look lost, point you to your bus without being asked, and they seem to be content, happy people. It still amazes me how different they are from their neighbors in Peru. The second we crossed the border, we could feel the change.

2. The diversity. Ecuador is one the 17 megadiverse countries in the world, and you can do absolutely anything here, ranging from jungle tours, white water rafting, canopy, beaches, cloud forests, mountain hikes, cycling, thermal baths, to seeing really special fauna and flora. And we haven’t even made it to the Galápagos Islands yet!

3. The juices. Ecuador has so many tropical plants, that are used to make the most delicious fresh juices there are. While this is also true for Peru, the friendly people who sell and serve them make them so much more pleasant to have.

4. The bathrooms. There is actually toilet paper and often even soap. If you’ve been to other South American countries, you know how much of a difference that can make.

5. The atmosphere. All the above contribute to an overall relaxed, friendly, and pleasant atmosphere in the entire county. We’re definitely coming back some day!

Ecuador hat uns bisher am besten gefallen und morgen verabschieden wir uns von hier. Nun gut, warum ist Ecuador denn so angenehm im Vergleich zu anderen Ländern in Südamerika? Hier die Gründe:

1. Die Menschen. Ob man es glaubt oder nicht, die Leute in Ecuador sind die freundlichsten und angenehmsten Personen, denen wir auf unserer Reise soweit begegnet sind. Sie lächeln, helfen einem auf der Straße, wenn man den Weg nicht weiß, zeigen dir deinen Bus, ohne gefragt zu werden und wirken einfach zufrieden und glücklich. Ich wundere mich immer noch darüber, wie anders sie von ihren Nachbarn in Peru sind. Sobald wir die Grenze überquert hatten, konnten wir den Unterschied spüren.

2. Die Vielfalt. Ecuador ist eins der 17 megadiversen Länder der Welt und man kann hier wirklich alles machen, wie z.B. Dschungeltouren, Wildwasser-Rafting, Canopy, Strände, Nebelwälder, Bergwanderungen, Radfahren, Thermalbäder und ganz besondere Fauna und Flora sehen. Und wir waren noch nicht mal auf den Galápagos-Inseln!

3. Die Fruchtsäfte. Ecuador hat so viele tropische Pflanzen, aus denen man leckere Fruchtsäfte machen kann. Obwohl es diese Säfte auch in Peru gibt, ist es viel angenehmer, diese von den freundlichen Ecuadorianern verkauft oder serviert zu bekommen.

4. Die Toiletten. Es gibt hier wirklich Klopapier und oft auch Seife. Wenn man in anderen Ländern in Südamerika war, dann weiß man, was das für einen Unterschied machen kann.

5. Die Atmosphäre. Alle vorher genannten Gründe tragen dazu bei, dass im ganzen Land eine entspannte, freundliche und angenehme Atmosphäre herrscht. Das war sicher nicht unser letztes Mal in Ecuador!
