After Durango, we went up north to our next destination. More on that later. The drive through Silverton and Ouray, two old mining towns, was very scenic and we stopped in each town for a little to stroll around. Well worth the visit. The pictures and captions really tell the full story.
Nach Durango ging es Richtung Norden zu unserem nächsten Zielort. Mehr dazu später. Die Fahrt durch Silverton und Ouray, zwei alte Bergbaustädte, war landschaftlich sehr schön und wir hielten in jeder Kleinstadt an und liefen ein bisschen herum. Es lohnte sich echt. The Durango-Silverton railroad, a train for tourists going through the mountains between the two towns. Die Durango-Silverton-Eisenbahn, ein Zug für Touristen, fährt zwischen den beiden Städten durch die Berge.

Going over the Red Mountain Pass. You can see some old mining buildings here. Über den Red Mountain Pass (Pass der roten Berge). Man sieht hier einige alte Gebäude aus dem damaligen Bergbau.

Also called the Million Dollar Highway, the road from Silverton to Ouray is about 25 miles long. The locals joke that that you would have to pay them a million dollars to drive the road in the snow. Die Straße von Silverton nach Ouray ist ca. 40 km lang und wird auch Million Dollar Highway genannt. Die Einheimischen machen Witze darüber, dass man ihnen eine Million Dollar bezahlen müsse, um auf der Straße im Schnee zu fahren.
This is pretty but does not look like Switzerland. Das ist schön, sieht aber nicht wie die Schweiz aus.
