Oh Be Joyful Crested Butte

Crested Butte had been on my list of places to visit for a while and since it’s included in my ski pass, we finally made a trip out of it this past March. I’m sure it’s lovely in every season and I do want to return for the Oh-Be-Joyful Trail, but late winter was a charming time to visit. The nice thing about Crested Butte was also that we were able to get by without the car for a few days, walking everywhere to eat, and taking a shuttle to the ski resort. Check out my photos.

Crested Butte war schon länger auf meiner Liste für Orte, die man besuchen muss und weil es in meinem Skipass drin ist, machten wir im März eine Reise draus. Ich bin mir sicher, dass es dort zu jeder Jahreszeit super schön ist und ich will definitiv den Oh-Be-Joyful Trail irgendwann machen, aber der späte Winter war eine tolle Zeit für einen Besuch. Das Schöne an Crested Butte war auch, dass wir ein paar Tage unser Auto nicht brauchten, überall zum Essen hinlaufen und einen Bus ins Skigebiet nehmen konnten. Schaut euch meine Fotos an.

When Life Gives You Lemons: Devil’s Backbone in Loveland

I’ve been really into these season-by-season comparisons lately. When my brother and sister-in-law arrived in March for a ski trip during one of the biggest snow storms in the Front Range for the whole winter and we had to cancel our hiking trip to Rocky Mountain National Park because it was closed that morning due to almost three feet of new snow, we changed plans and went to Devil’s Backbone in Loveland instead. I had been there in the summer of 2021 with Caroline on my back on a hot day. A very different experience. This time, we got a snowy, wet trail and a bonus elk herd. It was just lovely. In letzter Zeit hab ich echt viel zu verschiedenen Jahreszeiten verglichen. Als mein Bruder und meine Schwägerin im März für einen Skiurlaub mitten im größten Schneesturm des ganzen Winters in der Front Range ankamen und wir unsere Wanderung im Rocky-Mountain-Nationalpark streichen mussten, weil er an dem Morgen wegen fast einem Meter Neuschnee zu hatte, mussten wir unsere Pläne ändern und fuhren stattdessen zum Devil’s Backbone in Loveland. Ich war im Sommer 2021 an einem heißen Tag mal mit Caroline auf dem Rücken da. Ein ganz anderes Erlebnis. Diesmal hatten wir einen nassen, verschneiten Wanderweg und als Bonus eine Elchherde. Es war einfach nur toll. Schaut euch meine Fotos an.

It’s hard to make out the elk herd but they’re in front of the buildings in the distance. My brother has a better photo. Man kann die Elchherde schwer erkennen, aber sie befindet sich vor den Gebäuden in der Ferne. Mein Bruder hat das bessere Foto.

[Birthday Hikes] Red Rocks and Anemone Loop

On my birthday this year, I treated myself to a local hike. It was terrific. I couldn’t believe that I was coming up on five years in Colorado not having discovered that hike. It wasn’t the famous Red Rocks near Denver but the Boulder version of it, combined with a loop trail nearby. Check out these terrific photos.

Dieses Jahr an meinem Geburtstag schenkte ich mir eine Wanderung in der Nähe. Sie war herrlich. Ich konnte nicht glauben, dass ich schon seit fast 5 Jahren in Colorado war und diese Wanderung noch nicht entdeckt hatte. Er waren nicht die berühmten Red Rocks in der Nähe von Denver, sondern die Boulder-Version davon in Kombination mit einem nahegelegenen Rundweg. Schaut auch diese tollen Fotos hier an.

At the trailhead. Parking was full on a Friday afternoon in early January but there were residential streets to park on nearby. Am Wanderweg. Der Parkplatz war an einem Freitagnachmittag Anfang Januar voll, aber man konnte in der Nähe auf der Straße parken.
