Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

Our last stop was Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. We spent one night camping and enjoyed the night sky. Since the park is an international dark sky park, the sky was spectacular and even the moon looked different. You could see the dark side of it that you typically don’t see. The next day, we drove a little through the park before heading back to Longmont. According to the national park website, the park “exposes you to some of the steepest cliffs, oldest rock, and craggiest spires in North America. With two million years to work, the Gunnison River, along with the forces of weathering, has sculpted this vertical wilderness of rock, water, and sky.” The United States never disappoints!

Unser letztes Ziel war der Black Canyon of the Gunnison Nationalpark. Wir verbrachten dort eine Nacht im Zelt und genossen den Nachthimmel. Da der Park ein „International Dark Sky Park” (internationaler Park mit dunklem Himmel) ist, war der Himmel extrem beeindruckend und sogar der Mond sah anders aus. Man konnte die dunkle Seite von ihm sehen, die man sonst nicht sieht. Am nächsten Tag fuhren wir ein bisschen durch den Park, bevor es zurück nach Longmont ging. Laut der Seite des Nationalparks hat der Park einige der steilsten Klippen, ältesten Felsen und schroffsten Spitzen in Nordamerika. In zwei Millionen Jahren hat der Gunnison River mit der Kraft des Wetters eine vertikale Wildnis von Felsen, Wasser und Himmel geformt. Die USA enttäuschen nie!

It is hard to take photos because everything is so massive. Fotos machen ist schwierig, weil alles so groß ist.

This one is interesting because the sign explained the erosion of each side due to different sun exposure. The left side is much steeper than the right because it gets more sun. Das hier ist interessant, weil das Schild die Erosion jeder Seite je nach Sonnenposition erklärt. Die linke Seite ist viel steiler als die rechte, weil sie mehr Sonne abbekommt.
